Tree care in Laguna Woods

A city that is mostly one community

In Laguna Woods, the first question about any tree is whether it stands inside Laguna Woods Village. It covers about 90% of the city. It opened as Leisure World in 1964 and today has more than 640 acres of landscaping with nearly 33,000 trees, managed under forest plans for its mutuals. Its residents send tree and shrub pruning requests to Resident Services. The city, formed in 1999, looks after the medians and parkways on roads such as El Toro Road and Moulton Parkway, and it bans glyphosate and gas blowers in that work. Private lots beyond its grounds are cared for by their owners.

Inside, its own team handles the trees. Outside, the trees are yours.

Who governs tree work in Laguna Woods

City of Laguna WoodsLaguna Woods Village (private community)

Tree work in Laguna Woods follows the city's own tree rules — except inside Laguna Woods Village, the private community that covers much of the city, where the Village's own approval is the one a resident needs. The City of Laguna Woods does not maintain landscaping within the private community of Laguna Woods Village or along streets in the City of Laguna Hills (including Avenida de la Carlota, Laguna Hills Drive, and Paseo de Valencia). Rules change. Confirm current requirements with the jurisdiction before work begins — filing a permit is the property owner's responsibility, not ours.

What we do here

Laguna Woods yards outside the Village: removals, palms, hedges

Supreme Tree Experts removes trees, trims palms and shapes hedges on private Laguna Woods lots beyond the community. When a stump or low limb makes a path unsafe, those residents phone Supreme Tree Experts.

  • Tree Removal

Tree removal: trunk cut into log rounds

Outside the 55-plus grounds, trees on your lot are yours to remove, and we lower them piece by piece. Inside it, its own team manages the trees and residents go through that team. We tell you which side of that line you are on.

  • Tree Trimming & Pruning

Tree trimming crew with a chipper truck

Residents of the 55-plus grounds send tree and shrub pruning requests to Resident Services at (949) 597-4600. For homes and businesses outside it, our crews prune yard trees for health and clearance. We keep limbs off roofs and walks.

  • Stump Grinding & Stump Removal

Stump grinding with a Vermeer grinder

In a 55-plus community, a stump in the yard is a tripping risk. We grind it below the surface and rake the spot smooth. The ground is left level for grass, a bed or a path.

  • Palm Tree Trimming & Skinning

Palm trimming from a lift truck

Spent fronds can fall onto walkways where people pass. We clear them on private lots beyond those grounds before they drop. Our lift truck also lets the crew skin old frond bases for a neat, even trunk.

  • Emergency Tree Service

Emergency call-out: uprooted tree on a hillside

If a tree falls on a home outside the 55-plus grounds, call us 24/7. Residents inside can reach its security desk, which answers around the clock. We cut the tree free, make the roof safe and haul the wood away.

  • Tree Maintenance

Tree maintenance on a mature olive tree

The community keeps nearly 33,000 trees on formal forest plans, managed for each mutual. Private lots outside it need their own regular checks. We look for dead limbs, split forks and branches hanging low over walks.

  • Tree Height Reduction

Tree height reduction from a boom truck

Tall trees over homes and walks can drop limbs where people pass. We reduce height with proper cuts back to a lower branch, never topping. The tree keeps its shade and its shape, with less weight overhead.

  • Estate Tree Care

Estate tree care for mature sycamores

Owners outside the 55-plus grounds with several trees get a care plan set by season. If a tree hangs over a city parkway or median, the city is checked first. Our 75-foot boom trucks reach trees behind the house.

  • Tree Shaping & Shrub Shearing

Hedge shearing from a boom truck

Low hedges and shrubs beside paths affect safe walking in a 55-plus community. We shape them so walks stay wide and clear. Branches at eye level are cut back, and every clipping is swept up.

  • Landscaping

Landscaped garden with a stone waterfall

Inside the community, landscape changes go through your mutual's Landscape Committee on a request form. Outside it, we plan low-water planting for your yard. Trees go where their roots stay clear of walks and patios.

  • Hardscape

Level paths matter for easy walking in this small city. We build walks and patios on a firm base, clear of tree roots that could heave them. Edges are set flush so nothing catches a foot.

Why Choose Us

Inside the Village or not? How we help Laguna Woods owners

Tree work goes wrong when it is rushed or under-equipped. We run our own 75-foot boom trucks, lift trucks, chippers and stump grinders, and every crew works under an ISA Certified Arborist — so the job gets done right the first time.

We hold California license #1002853 for both landscaping and tree and palm work, we are bonded, we carry general liability and every employee is on workers’ compensation.

  • ISA Certified Arborist

An arborist visits free and tells you first if the tree is under the community's care or yours.

  • Licensed, Bonded & Insured

State license #1002853 covers our tree work (C-61/D-49) and landscape work (C-27). A bond backs the work, and insurance covers each person on the crew.

  • Southern California Since 1985

We started in 1985, fourteen years before Laguna Woods became a city in 1999.

  • Our Own Equipment

Our own 75-foot boom trucks reach trees behind the house, and our own chippers take the wood away.

FAQ

Questions worth asking before you book in Laguna Woods

The 6 worth settling before tree work starts in Laguna Woods. If yours is not here, call 877-787-7363 and ask.

Your community does. Its Landscaping Services team cares for nearly 33,000 trees across more than 640 acres. Send tree and shrub pruning requests to Resident Services at (949) 597-4600. Changes to landscaping go through your mutual's Landscape Committee on a request form.

The city. It maintains the landscaping on El Toro Road, Moulton Parkway, Ridge Route Drive and Santa Maria Avenue, plus public medians, parkways and city parks. It does not maintain landscaping inside those grounds. That work belongs to their own Landscaping Services team.

It avoids the harshest ones. In its own landscape work, the city bans glyphosate, neonicotinoids and second-generation rat poisons, and it does not use gas-powered blowers. Debris is raked, swept or vacuumed in most areas. Those rules cover city land, not private yards.

Yes. Homes and businesses there look after their own trees. An arborist can visit, tell you what each tree needs, and plan pruning or removal. If a tree hangs over a city parkway or median, check with the city first.

Yes — $600 for tree services, wherever the job is. Most jobs here are on private lots beyond those grounds, and how the crew reaches the tree shapes much of the cost.

Yes, 24/7. Inside those grounds, call Village Security first, which answers 24/7; elsewhere, a fallen tree is the owner's to clear. Call 877-787-7363.
