Tree care in Tustin
The City of Trees
Tustin earned the name City of Trees from the sycamores and oaks that grew here before the town did. Columbus Tustin, a carriage maker, founded the town in 1868 on 1,300 acres and planted more trees along its streets. Old Town still has houses from the 1880s and huge native sycamores that were growing when he bought the land. The city became official in 1927. Today its Landscape Division cares for 16,000 public trees, and Tustin has been a Tree City USA every year since 1997. Two giant wooden blimp hangars from 1942 stood here, and one burned in November 2023.
In Old Town, some of the sycamores were already standing when Columbus Tustin bought the land.

Who governs tree work in Tustin
City of Tustin
Tree work in Tustin follows the City of Tustin's rules. The City controls all trees in public parkways, streets and other public rights-of-way, and no one may trim, cut, remove or injure one without prior written approval from the City's Manager of Field Services (Tustin City Code §7301, §7303). Owners must still water and care for parkway trees in front of their property (§7304). If an owner asks the City to remove a healthy parkway tree, it will not be removed unless it has damaged the adjacent property or is found to be unsafe (§7306). Rules change. Confirm current requirements with the jurisdiction before work begins — filing a permit is the property owner's responsibility, not ours.
The list
Old-tree pruning, removal and storm cleanup in Tustin
Supreme Tree Experts prunes, removes and grinds out trees in Tustin, where Old Town sycamores predate the town. When a storm drops a yard limb on the house, Tustin owners call Supreme Tree Experts.
Tree Removal

Our crews take out trees on your own Tustin lot, lowering heavy wood by rope in tight yards. Parkway and street trees are the city's. No one may cut one without written approval from the city's Manager of Field Services.
Tree Trimming & Pruning

Our crews thin heavy crowns and take out dead wood before the rainy months. The city says most fallen limbs and hazard trees here come with storms. Lighter crowns catch less wind and drop less on roofs.
Stump Grinding & Stump Removal

We chew stumps out below the soil so a young tree can fill the old one's spot. In a place known as the City of Trees, a replacement keeps the shade going. We clear the grindings or leave them as mulch.
Palm Tree Trimming & Skinning

Our lift truck crew trims tall palms by homes, garages and pools, clearing dead fronds and heavy fruit clusters. Skinning takes off the old frond bases, leaving a clean, even trunk. We time the work ahead of storm season.
Emergency Tree Service

We take calls 24/7 when a limb from your yard lands on the house or car. City crews clear fallen limbs from city trees, and you report those through the Engage Tustin app. Private trees are ours to clear.
Tree Maintenance

We check trees for dry-season stress, thin canopies and weak limbs. The city advises deep watering now and then, rather than often, so roots grow deep. Deep roots help a tree stand up to wind and dry spells.
Tree Height Reduction

We reduce tall shade trees over older homes, shortening limbs to strong forks. Large old trees in tight yards take more rigging, so we plan every lowered piece. The crown keeps its natural shape, and nothing is topped.
Estate Tree Care

We keep a care plan for older properties where 1880s homes sit among big trees. Some native sycamores in the historic core were growing before the town was founded in 1868. Trees that old need gentle pruning and a close eye on big limbs.
Tree Shaping & Shrub Shearing

We shape the hedges and shrubs beneath your trees so they stay neat and in scale. Light, frequent shearing keeps the inside green, while hard cuts leave bare patches. Every clipping goes into the chipper.
Landscaping

We plan planting that suits your yard and your water use. Owners must water the parkway tree in front of their home, so we add it to your watering plan. Tustin has been a Tree City USA every year since 1997.
Hardscape

We place new walks and patios with room left for mature roots. The city removes a healthy parkway tree only if it damaged nearby property or is unsafe. So we design paving to live alongside the tree out front.

Southern California Since 1985
Tustin was founded in 1868. Our family business is younger — 1985 — but four decades is long enough to learn how old trees behave.

The city does. Its Landscape Division cares for 16,000 trees in the public right-of-way and on public property. It plants, inspects, root-prunes, trims and removes them. City contractors, who are easy to identify, do the trimming. The trees inside your property line are your job.
Use the city's service request page or the Engage Tustin app. You get an automatic receipt, then an email once the issue is assigned. The city says not every issue can be fixed right away; work goes by priority and budget. Its crews also respond to fallen limbs after storms.
Water deeply, and not too often. The city says periodic deep watering is the best way to grow deep roots and use water well, and it publishes a tree watering guide. Deep roots help a tree stand up to wind and dry spells.
